While it’s exciting to go to the bee supplies shop and load up with beekeeping equipment….pause…. and come and play on some hives at the field days and work out exactly what size hive is going to work for you. A super full of honey can be heavy. Can you lift 20-30 kgs at elbow height. There are many different styles of hives and different widths and depths. Your mentor will teach you the difference between an 8 frame box and a 10 frame box, the difference in weights between a full depth box and an ideal depth box. All these decisions affect the bee space and how your bees will grow the colony… so come and learn before buying gear and see if you like beekeeping first before you invest.
